Supporting older people, including those living with dementia, to live active and fulfilling lives
Strathmore Day Opportunities provides building‑based and community‑focused day opportunities for older people, including people living with dementia. Our service supports individuals to stay active, maintain independence and enjoy meaningful connections within their community.
The service also provides reassurance and regular breaks for families and carers.
What we aim to provide
Our service is person‑centred, flexible and evidence‑based. We aim to:
- Promote individual strengths and independence
- Support social, physical and mental wellbeing
- Offer a wide range of meaningful activities and opportunities
- Help people living with dementia continue to live in their own homes for as long as possible
- Involve service users and carers in all aspects of the service
- Deliver support in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment
Support is tailored to each person's goals, interests and wishes.
Quality and standards
Our service is underpinned by the Health and Social Care Standards, which describe what people can expect from health and care services, and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice, which set standards for professional conduct and practice.
Strathmore Day Opportunities is registered, regulated and inspected by the Care Inspectorate. Inspection reports for the service are available on the Care Inspectorate website.
Being involved and having your say
We value feedback from people who use the service, their families and carers, and we use this to continually improve what we offer.
We gather views in a range of ways, including:
- Individual reviews
- Feedback through advocacy services
- Ongoing conversations with service users and carers
About the service
Strathmore Day Opportunities is open Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 4.00pm.
We offer:
- Building‑based day opportunities
- Outreach support
- Support for carers
The service provides a supportive, welcoming environment where people can build routines, take part in activities and feel part of their community.
Staffing and support
The service is delivered by a team of experienced staff, supported by volunteers, modern apprentices and students.
The Day Opportunities Co‑ordinator is based in the building from Tuesday to Friday, and a Depute Manager is on duty from Monday to Thursday.
Each person using the service is allocated a key worker, who works with them to develop and regularly review a person‑centred plan, ensuring the service reflects their goals, wishes and expectations.
Costs and funding
Some elements of the service are chargeable. You may be required to pay all or part of the cost of attending, depending on your individual circumstances.
Charges are based on:
- How often you attend day opportunities
- A financial assessment, where required
Costs will be discussed with you individually, and you will be offered a financial assessment and advice on income maximisation.
Charges include the cost of internal transport. Meals are not included and can be purchased separately on the day.
Further information about funding and financial assessments is available in Paying for care and free personal care.
Accessing the service
Access to Strathmore Day Opportunities is usually through a social work assessment.
Referrals are made via Accessing care, through the Early Intervention and Prevention Team.
Once an assessment is complete, staff from Strathmore Day Opportunities will contact you directly to discuss arrangements and next steps.
