Looking after mental health and wellbeing is important at every stage of life.
Our mental wellbeing can change over time and is shaped by many factors, including life experiences, relationships, health, finances, housing, work, and community connections.
This page brings together resources developed or recommended by the Perth & Kinross Health & Social Care Partnership to help:
- raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing
- reduce stigma and discrimination
- support understanding and open conversations
- promote positive mental wellbeing
These resources are intended for individuals, families, carers, workplaces, communities and organisations.
Understanding mental health and wellbeing
Mental health affects how we think, feel and cope with everyday life. Anyone can experience changes in their mental health, and there may not always be a clear reason for feeling distressed or unwell.
Support for mental wellbeing can come from many places, including:
- healthcare services
- council and HSCP services
- community groups and charities
- workplaces and educational settings
Alongside medical care, wellbeing support may also include help with:
- financial stability
- housing
- caring relationships
- learning and work
- meaningful activity
- feeling safe and protected
This approach reflects the principles set out in the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Media and learning resources
Understanding mental health can support better wellbeing for yourself and for others.
We have developed a range of media and learning resources that explore common mental health experiences, including stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.
There are a number of resources available online including articles, animations, short films and online learning materials. You can find these on sites such as downloadable resources from Mental Health UK.
Case studies and real experiences
There are a number of case studies that explore mental health and wellbeing in workplace settings available.
These case studies share real experiences of:
- managing mental health at work
- supporting colleagues
- the role of training and awareness
- talking openly about mental wellbeing
They are designed to increase understanding and reduce stigma. Mind have created a space for blogs and stories showing that people with mental health problems are cared about, understood and listened to. We can use it to challenge the status quo and change attitudes.
Mental health and wellbeing policy toolkit
A Mental Health and Wellbeing Policies and Procedures Toolkit (PDF, 1 MB) is available to support employers and organisations to develop their own workplace mental health policy.
The toolkit provides prompts and guidance to help organisations:
- support staff wellbeing
- respond to mental health concerns
- create inclusive and supportive environments
